A Dual Band wireless range extender, Linksys RE6500 brings you an internet speed of up to 300 Mbps over wireless connections and that of up to 900Mbps on wired connections. The product works on the standards, IEEE 802.11 (a/n/g/b/u). With a capability of repeating the network range of your router up to 10,000 square feet, this device helps lets you access the internet at any corner in your home.
RE6500 comes with a 3.5mm audio port which allows to stream music on the network you are connected to, and play it on the speakers. The exclusive spot finder technology helps you place your extender at an optimum distance from the router.
Without the requirement of a CD for the installation process, it is quite an easy task to start using it. It has got 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports which gives you 10x faster speeds than the fast Ethernet.
Here’s a look into Linksys RE6500 setup guide. Before you move on with the setup process, collect the Wireless network name (SSID) and Password of the network. Once you have the required data, simply follow the steps given below and enjoy a hassle free and fast network.
Step 1: Take the antennas and connect them to your extender, and plug the adapter into a power outlet.
NOTE: To achieve the best results, keep the antennas in upright position.
Step 2: Keep your range extender midway between the router and the weak or no network zone.
Step 3: On the top panel of the extender, wait for a light to stabilize.
Step 4: Connect your laptop or mobile (whatever you are using) to the extender. Now this can be done by two methods:
Wireless Setup: Connect the range extender’s SSID to the device you’re using. The default SSID here would be Linksys Extender Setup- ABC (where ABC are the last three characters of the MAC address of the extender).
Wired Setup: Connect your computer to the extender using an Ethernet cable and also to the router.
Step 5: Now go to a web browser and in the address bar there, enter, either ‘http://extender.linksys.com’ or the IP address of the extender.
NOTE: The default IP Address of your un-configured Linksys range extender is 192.168.1.1. Once it gets connected to a network, it will obtain a unique IP address from the server, such as a router, in this case.
Step 6: Once you have made it to the setup screen, click Start.
Step7: You will now be taken to the License Agreement page, where you have to click I Agree.
Step8: Now select Wireless Network, and connect to your network.
NOTE: If you have a hidden SSID, click Manually Enter Network Name and Password on the bottom.
Step 9: Enter the password of your wireless network and click ‘Next.’
Step10: You will now be taken to configure your Extended Networks where the names of extended networks are created automatically (_Ext for a 2.4 GHz network and _5GHz_Ext for a 5 GHz network). Click Next when finished.
NOTE: You can change the name of extended network manually if you want to.
Step 11: Now you need to create an admin password. Once set, click ‘Next.’ A message will now appear on the screen of your client device saying, ‘Your extender setup is complete.’
After having completed the process, your extender is now ready to serve you.
